GENESEO – The hunt is on for a suspect in a bad money transaction at the local 7-11 gas station convenience store, where a $400 Debit Card was purchased with all fake $20 bills Tuesday morning.
According to a press release from Geneseo Police Chief Eric Osganian, a security camera saw all when the unknown young man purchased a green dot debit card with funny money. According to the video footage, the suspect came from the Main Street area when he walked up to the store.
Unable to find marketplace offers.
“It’s possible he may be a college student, since he appears young,” said Osganian. “Wegmans also received a fake twenty dollar bill yesterday that may match what we have.”
Osganian added that he believes the suspect has numerous fake twenty dollar bills and will continue to pass them until caught. The bills look real enough, but they are lacking some of the security features that should be on the bill. The fakes are all 2006 series, but do not have the threads going through the bill, and the watermark is missing.
“Plus, they don’t feel right compared to a real twenty,” added Osganian. “But if you’re in a hurry and just grabbed them I’m not sure you would notice they are fake. The printer quality is good. If you receive a bill that you feel is fake, please call us. Some of the serial numbers on the bills we have are duplicates.”
Osganian encourages anyone who thinks they may have seen the suspect or his fake bills to immediately call the Geneseo Police Department at (585) 243-2420.
