Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Monroe County resident and a Livingston County resident on multiple violent felony charges following a four-month investigation into several home invasion robberies.
On July 21st, 2022, at approximately 6:15 am, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence on Swanson Road in the Town of Mount Morris for the report of an armed home invasion robbery. Upon arrival, Deputies met with residents of the home, who reported that two males forced their way into the residence. The victims said that one male was armed with a hammer, and the other was armed with a handgun. The suspects threatened the occupants of the home and demanded cash. The suspects then fled the house with an undisclosed amount of money. Despite an intensive search of the area, the suspects were not located.
During the initial response, Deputies learned of another unreported home invasion robbery on July 18th, 2022, at approximately 5:30 am on Alvord Road in the Town of Mount Morris. During that incident, two males, one armed with a handgun and one armed with a knife, forced their way into the residence. The suspects again threatened the home’s occupants and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
Sheriff’s Investigators responded to the scene and began investigating both robberies. Deputies also increased safety patrols in the area.
On September 28th, 2022, at around 3:00 am, a third armed home invasion robbery occurred on Rogers Road in the Town of Centerville, Allegany County. The suspects in that robbery fled with stolen long guns and an undisclosed amount of money. New York State Police Investigators in Amity contacted Livingston County Sheriff’s Investigators and advised of similarities to the robberies that occurred in Livingston County. At that time, both agencies began a joint investigation.
As a result of the investigation, Investigators were able to link two suspects to all three of the home invasion robberies. The suspects were identified as 33-year-old Anthony J. Smith of West Sparta, NY, and 46-year-old Danny Echevarria of Rochester, NY.
On November 29th, 2022, Sheriff’s Investigators arrested and charged Smith with four (4) counts of felony Burglary in the First Degree, four (4) counts of felony Robbery in the First Degree, two (2) counts of felony Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, two (2) counts of felony Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, and two (2) counts of Menacing in the Second Degree.

Smith was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) at the Livingston County Jail before the Town of North Dansville Justice Werth. The Judge did remand Smith to the custody of the Sheriff, setting bail at double the request of the District Attorney, setting bail at $200,000 cash/credit, or $400,000 bond.
The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office was present and represented Smith at the Court arraignment for his defense. The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office was notified but did not appear to represent the people.
On December 2nd, 2022, Sheriff’s Investigators located and arrested Echevarria in the City of Rochester and charged him with four (4) counts of felony Burglary in the First Degree, four (4) counts of felony Robbery in the First Degree, two (2) counts of felony Criminal Use of a Firearm in the First Degree, two (2) counts of felony Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, and two (2) counts of Menacing in the Second Degree.
Echevarria was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention. The District Attorney’s Office was contacted in regard to bail due to the felony-level charges. It was recommended that Echevarria be held without bail due to having two or more prior felony convictions.
Echevarria was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) at the Livingston County Jail before Town of North Dansville Justice Werth. The Judge did remand Echevarria to the custody of the Sheriff without the chance of bail to be held for further proceedings.
The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office was present and represented Echevarria at the Court arraignment for his defense. The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office was notified but did not appear to represent the people.
Smith and Echevarria are also facing additional charges for the third home invasion robbery in Allegany County with SP Amity handling.
