GENESEO — The Geneseo Healthy Campus and Community Coalition along with other co-sponsors brought in Dr. Kevin Hill, an addiction psychiatrist to speak to the community on the issues with addiction especially with marijuana, alcohol and opioids.
The resume of Rochester native and national expert Dr. Kevin Hill is a run-on sentence of dedication and determination toward educating those whom are impacted by addiction. Dr. Hill He grew up in Rochester, New York and attended McQuaid Jesuit High School. He subsequently graduated from Skidmore College and Jefferson Medical College before training in psychiatry at the Harvard Longwood Psychiatry Residency Training Program. Dr. Hill earned a Masters in Health Sciences from the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at Yale and also completed the Partners Healthcare Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship Program.
“From my perspective I need to do two things,” said Dr. Hill, who is currently the Director of the Division of Addiction Psychiatry at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. “Educate people about it so if they are going to try to stop they are going to be prepared, and if they are trying to stop – find treatment for these folks.”
At the end of his speech Dr. Hill fielded a variety of questions from college students, counselors, those currently in treatment, law enforcement, parents and others whom were impacted by addiction issues or seek further education on the topic.
The afternoon session was at Geneseo Central School and there will be an evening presentation tonight on the SUNY Geneseo Campus.
In addition to the clinical trials he directs, Dr. Hill sees patients in his private practice and consults to the Boston Red Sox, the National Football League, and the National Basketball Association.
