Today is the day to start to take precautions. Tie down all loose objects and prepare your home for possible power outages. Make sure you have batteries in your flashlights and enough food and water to be comfortable in case the power is out for several days. Make sure your phones are fully charged.
If you are going to use a generator if the power goes out, make sure you have enough gas and that it is set up so that you will not get any carbon monoxide in your home. Be careful of the trees in your yard … the shallow rooted pines will be especially vulnerable. Don’t park your vehicles under any tree or tree limb that has the possibility for being blown down. All high profile vehicles are going to be vulnerable driving down the road.
If you have livestock or other outdoor animals, make sure all gates are securely fastened and will withstand the winds. Fill their water in case you can’t get to them for a day or so.
Lastly, after the wind event is over take an inventory of your yards, vehicles, roofs, siding, etc.. Please take a moment and check on your neighbors too.
