LIVONIA: Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a level 1 New York State Registered Sex Offender after an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
On February 11, 2019 Sheriff’s Investigator Dan Rittenhouse arrested 32 year old Jessica L. Covey, formally of Hemlock, NY. Covey was charged with Failure to Register and to Verify, a Class E Felony for violating the New York State Sex Offender Registry Act.
Per the provisions of the New York State Sex Offender Registry Act, any sex offender shall register with the division no later than ten calendar days after any change of address. It is alleged that Covey moved from Hemlock, NY to a residence in Rochester, NY without
updating her new address within the time frame mandated by the statute.
Covey was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention. The District Attorney’s Office was contacted in regards to bail due to the felony level charge. It was recommended that Covey be held on
$250 cash bail or $500 bond.
Covey was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) at the Livingston County Jail before Town of Caledonia Justice Mark Riggi. The Judge did remand Covey to the custody of the Sheriff on the recommended bail of $250 cash or $500 bond.
