HEMLOCK — The demolition derby at the Hemlock Fair is considered to be the best part of the fair by many, and on July 22, the fans who came to see it were not disappointed.
The derby kicked off with a second running of the figure-8 race, during which one car lost a wheel. But this was only the beginning of the destruction to come. All nine demolition heats had spectacular wrecks which received loud reactions from the crowd. some of the most notable however, came in heat 3, featuring mini-vans, heat 9 featuring trucks and two vans, and heat 7, featuring the cars with the largest engines in the derby.
Regardless of what type of vehicles the drivers started with, by the end of the day, the majority of them had been turned in to compact cars, and some were hit hard enough to even be flipped on their side. Luckily the safety and fire crews were always ready to make sure no-one was hurt in the exciting day of crashes.
