GENESEO – Ride by the Hammocks in Geneseo at night and you may catch a glimmer of green. Dozens of residents are choosing to display green lights in quiet but brilliant support for American military veterans.
Staff at the Hammocks, aptly situated on Veterans Drive in Geneseo, say that the idea started when a resident who is also a veteran offered to buy a pack of 32 green light bulbs, to be made available to other residents as part of the national Green Light a Vet movement.
“One of our residents came to us and said he would buy green light bulbs if we put them in our business center for residents to take and display for Green Light a Veteran,” said Angel Lynch, Leasing Consultant and resident at the Hammocks. “Within a week, all the lights were gone and our community became a green shining star at night. This is just another reason why I love living in this community.”
Green Light a Vet is a national campaign whereby residents light a single green bulb to quietly signify their support for military veterans. The movement encourages participants to take a photo of their illuminated light and share it with the hashtag #greenlightavet. You can learn more about the movement at its website here.
About 20 veterans currently live in the Hammocks’ apartment complex. The trend is still picking up steam in the community.
“I told the resident that the next dozen are on me,” added Lynch.”Resident Manager Tera Kendall and I would like to say thank you our entire community at the Hammocks at Geneseo for their support of our veterans.”
