AVON – A case turned hairy for a Staten Island shoplifter as she was arraigned on Grand Larceny charges in court on Tuesday, following her arrest in in May for stealing more than $1,000 in hair regrowth products and teeth whitening strips from a pharmacy in Avon.
Andrea Sanders, 25, admitted to stealing more than $1,000 in Rogaine foam and whitening strips from the CVS Pharmacy in Avon, and confirmed that she operated with an accomplice, Courtney Rivera, also of Staten Island, her codefendant in this case. Though at least one shoplifter has been caught, their case begs the question, how do you steal $1,000 of hair products right under the clerks’ noses?
“People are more trusting here in Livingston County than in places like Rochester,” said Livingston County District Attorney Greg McCaffrey. “It’s part of the reason folks want to live here. It’s more ‘Hi, how are you, how about this weather’ than suspecting shoplifting.”
McCaffrey added that Sanders is being held in Chemung County Jail for very similar allegations.
It is possible that a testimony by Sanders against Rivera, who has pled not guilty to Grand Larceny, could let Sanders completely avoid a prison sentence.
