GROVELAND – Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Groveland, NY man on felony assault charges after Sheriff’s Deputies investigated a domestic incident. On November 3, 2018 at approximately 3:54 PM, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Barber Hill Road in the Town of Groveland for a reported domestic incident that had just occurred between a father and son.
Deputies arrived on scene and found that a 70 year old man at the residence had been assaulted and sustained serious head injuries. EMS responded and transported the man to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of the injuries.
The suspect, 31 year old Owen R. Lowry, was still on scene. Lowry was interviewed and taken into custody by Deputies, charged with felony Assault in the 2nd Degree. The arrest in this case was a felony due to the fact that the victim of the assault was over the age of 65.
Lowry was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention. The District Attorney’s Office was contacted in regards to bail due to the felony level charge and they requested that the Judge hold Lowry on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. Lowry is currently on probation in Livingston County and Deputies did advise the Livingston County Probation Department of the arrest.
Lowry was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) at the Livingston County Jail before Village of Dansville Justice Scott Kenney. The Judge remanded Lowry to the custody of the Sheriff on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond.
Investigating the incident for the Sheriff’s Office were Investigator Josh Monster, Sergeant Matthew Orman, Deputy Michael Donals, and Deputy Scott Patterson (Forensic Identification Unit).
