On March 5, 2021 in Livingston County Court before the Honorable Kevin G. Van Allen, Gregory S. Cunningham of Beaver Dams, New York pled guilty to Assault in the First Degree in violation of Section 120.10(1) of the Penal Law of the State of New York for the June 9, 2020 stabbing incident at Wal-Mart in the Village of Geneseo.
On June 9, 2020, shortly after 4:00pm, Gregory S. Cunningham stabbed a woman multiple times with a knife in the refrigerated section of the Wal-Mart store located on Veterans Drive in the Village of Geneseo. As a result of the attack, the victim suffered several broken and chipped bones in her back and arm, and also suffered nerve damage. Cunningham was detained in the store by members of the Geneseo Police Department and the New York State Police, with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department assisting with the collection of evidence and photographing the scene.
The case was presented to grand jury and prosecuted by Livingston County District Attorney Gregory J. McCaffrey, who was on-scene at Wal-Mart shortly after the incident
that evening. Cunningham is facing a sentence of between five (5) and twenty-five (25) years in prison for this incident, along with post-release supervision, and is scheduled to be
sentenced on June 1, 2021 at 9:30am. As part of the plea, the anticipated sentence is twenty (20) years in state prison along with post-release supervision and a waiver of right to
appeal. Cunningham is being held at the Livingston County Jail without bail until his SENTENCING.
