MOUNT MORRIS – A family’s nightmare came true on Easter when a grandparent caught a 16-year-old friend of the family in the act of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl at a residence in Mount Morris.
According to Mount Morris Police Chief Ken Mignemi, the grandparent immediately reported the incident to Mount Morris Police, and after fully confessing to the crime, the 16-year-old was arrested for Rape in the First Degree, a class B felony.
“It is disturbing, and fortunately the family came forward and we are able to pursue justice for the victim,” said Chief Mignemi. “And she will receive justice.”
Chief Mignemi added that the 16-year-old was a friend of the victim’s family.
Due to the age of the accused, he will very likely be given Youthful Offender status, and his name will be protected from public record in connection to the incident.
The accused was remanded to the Livingston County Jail on $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.
