Governor Andrew Cuomo predicted yesterday that the positivity rate will significantly rise after Thanksgioving and warned local sheriffs to enfore the 10 person gathering limit.
Last week, Cuomo issued an executive order limiting gatherings at private residences to no more than 10 people. Since several law enforcement officers have declared they will not enforce this 10-person limit on gatherings.
Cuomo said they are violating their constitutional oath to uphold the law. To this the Governor said “There’s a law and you have to enforce the law or don’t call yourself a law enforcement officer.”
Cuomo acknowledged that it would be a difficult decision to alter holiday plans. He summarized conversations with members of his family about Thanksgiving. He said he told his mother, “We can’t get together.”
“Your family sounds safe, right? Your home sounds safe. Your dining room table at Thanksgiving sounds safe. ‘This is a safe environment. I’ll be safe.’ No, you won’t be safe. It’s an illusion,” the Governor stated.
