GENESEO – This year’s summer wine and brew stroll by the Geneseo Merchants Association (GMA) drew the community into Main Street Geneseo’s shops to raise a glass to Main Street’s businesses and the scenic Genesee Valley on Friday.
As part of an unprecedented partnership with the Genesee Valley Conservancy, the wine stroll not only coincided with the Finger Lakes Opera’s performance of the Elixir of Love, but with a silent art auction from 4 to 7 p.m. featuring work by local painters, photographers, sculptors and potters.
“This was a great event that brought in diverse styles and artists to celebrate the beautiful landscapes that the Conservancy seeks to protect,” said Ben Gajewski, Executive Director of the Nature Conservancy. “We would like to make this an annual event. Many pieces were sold through the ‘buy it now’ option, and those proceeds support protection projects for preserves in Geneseo.”
Featured wineries were Lakewood Vineyards at Genesee Valley Florist; Raymour Estate Cellars Winery at Body & Face by Kristin; Deer Run Winery at Sweet Arts Bakery; Marjim Manor at Image Empire Salon; Merritt Winery at the Not Dot Shop; Lost Borough at 82 Main Street; Amber Lantern Brewery at Sundance Books; and Genesee Valley Liquor, who poured their own selection.
A free concert featuring Rochester native Teresa Wilcox is currently playing at the Village Park. The show started at 7 p.m. following the stroll.
