GENESEO — Geneseo’s girls volleyball team had another sucessful day Tuesday, defeating Letchworth 3-0 at home.
The Blue Devils were in control all night, taking the first set 25-16, the second set 25-19, and the deciding set 25-16.
Head coach Chris Butera felt his team executed well in all aspects against Letchworth.
“We started out on our heels a little bit, like we have, but we picked up pretty quick,” Butera said. “Maggie Wheeler, our setter, did a nice job of distributing the ball and making the right choices and setting, and our free-ball passing was pretty good, which controlled the tempo of the game.”
Butera went on to stress the importance of picking up the divisional win over the Indians.
“It’s nice, it’s a divisional game, we’re always up for Division 3 games, we’re always up for any game, but we know if we want to have a good year, we start by judging ourselves against our division.”
Butera also talked about how senior Middle Hitter Aubrie Johnsen has developed as a player.
“This is the first year she is playing it all the way around,” he said. “The net, I know she can hit, I know she can block, everybody in the county knows and other people in the section are starting to take notice. We’re working now with her on her defense, in the back row, and that’s something that we’re really pinpointing to make her an all-around player, instead of just someone who just plays the front row and she has been working hard at it.”
Geneseo (5-1) will see action next when they play at Pavilion on Thursday at 6:00. Letchworth (3-4) will head back home and host York on Thursday starting at 4:30.
