GENESEO – The #2 seeded Geneseo Blue Devils took down rivals and #7 seed Cal-Mum 25-17, 25-18, 25-16 at home in Friday evening’s Section V Class DD quarterfinal match.
Senior Rachael Nicholls played a key role in the Blue Devils’ victory with 11 kills and 9 aces on the night. Senior Samantha Hammond was an important contributor as well with 9 kills and 4 aces of her own. For the Red Raiders, Junior Emily MacDonald showcased her defensive abilities by adding 18 digs for her team.
“We served tough tonight which limited the touches of their top hitters,”said Head Coach Christopher Butera. “We are excited to move on to the semi finals.”
“This team has a lot of senior leadership which will hopefully be an advantage as we go on,” Head Coach Butera mentioned. “These seniors didn’t want their season to end yet and want a chance to defend their sectional title, which is great motivation and drives them.”
The Blue Devils next match will be at Wayland Cohocton against Cuba-Rushford in the Section V Class DD semifinals on Tuesday, October 28 at 5:30p.m.
