GENESEO – The Geneseo Blue Devils put in a strong showing to defeat Mount Morris 6-0 at home Tuesday evening.
The Blue Devils have been firing on all cylinders as of late. This is their third shutout in a row. Sophomore Natalie Peraino scored the first goal for Geneseo assisted by freshman Kaity Keihl. A minute later, Keihl scored a goal of her own assisted by senior Michayla Salatel. Before the end of the first half, Salatel scored to make it 3-0, putting Geneseo firmly in control.
“The defense can’t go unnoticed. They have turned in another shutout and have allowed just 5 shits over 3 games,” said coach Nicholas Drollette. “In the end it’s about the hard work I’ve seen this last week. They’ve really tried to better themselves and work on their weaknesses. It’s not just about the wins it’s about the improvement.”
Peraino scored again for Geneseo to open the second half. With around 20 minutes remaining, Michayla Salatel scored the fifth goal for Geneseo assisted by senior Hailey Hopper. Salatel finished strong, closing out the game by completing a hat-trick with two minutes remaining.
“Today was a real team win. To have Michayla come through with 3 was nice. She’s hit 9 posts or crossbars in the last 3 games and I knew the goals would come,” said coach Drollette. “You can’t preach shoot for the corners and get upset when balls hit the post. I’m proud of where she’s missed. It shows belief in playing the game right.”
Geneseo is now 5-3-1 while Mount Morris is 4-5-0. Geneseo’s next match will be at home against Letchworth on Friday, September 26 at 4:30p.m.
