Senior Kelly Lynch scored the first goal for the Blue Devils in the 12th minute. Senior Tessa Gordinier evened the score up for the Indians in the 64th minute. In the 5th minute of overtime Senior Michayla Salatel scored unassisted to give the Blue Devils the lead and ultimately the win.
“The goal keeper, Payton Powers, for Keshequa really kept them in it. There were at least three saves she made that no other keeper in our division gets too. One of them was a full extension on a penalty kick. To think that she’s an eighth grader is amazing,” said Blue Devils coach Nick Drollette. “It was nice to see our girls not get down when she would come up with that big save because a lot of times that can really swing momentum to the other team.”
This win brings the Blue Devils to an overall record of 2-3-1 while the Indians are now 3-2-1.
“I was happy with how we played tonight. Things are finally starting to click. The first half was definitely the best half of soccer we had played to that point of the season,” added Drollette. “We made some minor adjustments heading into overtime but nothing too extreme. I told the girls they needed to trust our game plan and trust in how we prepared. They went out in overtime and flat out dominated.”
The Blue Devils next match will be away against Pavilion’s Golden Gophers on Friday, September 19 at 6:30p.m.
