CALEDONIA — The Cal-Mum Lady Raiders got off to a fast start and never looked back on Friday night, defeating Campbell-Savona 7-0.
Senior forward Maia Scott scored less than two minutes into the game, off of an assist from sophomore forward Jessica Garland, to set the tone early for the Lady Raiders.
The Lady Raiders were able to pull away midway through the first half, when they scored three goals – by three different players – in less than a three-minute span. Garland took a cross from sophomore midfielder Adrianna Molisani and put it away in the 24th minute. Less than 60 seconds later, sophomore midfielder Claudia Haut to go up 3-0. Molisani scored the final goal of the half in the 27th minute, as the Lady Raiders took a comfortable 4-0 lead into halftime.
The Lady Raiders refused to let up in the second half. Junior midfielder Sarah Williams scored in the 45th minute, and goals by junior forward Rachel Hume and Haut followed shortly after.
“There might be ten different girls who have scored a goal for us this year,” Lady Raiders head coach Chad Schalk said. “Which is good for us, I would hope that it makes us tough to defend.”
The Lady Raiders’ defense, led by senior Breanne Nelson and junior Hannah Anderson, were also key in making sure that every time Campbell-Savona had an opportunity it was stifled quickly, allowing sophomore Megan Little to fill in for senior Kenna Kosinski and provide an effortless performance in goal.
Cal-Mum (12-2-3) will play on Tuesday against Bishop Kearney.
