LETCHWORTH — With 5:30 left in the first quarter, Mount Morris leads Whitesville 4-2.
At the end of the first quarter, Mount Morris remains in front, leading 10-5.
With 4:31 left in the half, the lady Blue Devils continue to play well, leading 12-7.
At half in the Class D2 final, Mount Morris leads Whitesville,14-10.
Leading scorers for Mount Morris are guard Grace D’Angelo with 6 points and center Justine Yates with 4 points.
With 3:26 left in the third quarter, Mount Morris maintains their lead, up 19-18.
With 2:02 left in the third, Whitesville has taken the lead, 20-19.
At the end of the third, Whitesville leads Mount Morris 27-19. Whitesville went on an 8-0 run to end the quarter.
Midway through the fourth, Whitesville remains in front, 28-22.
With under two minutes to go in the game, Whitesville leads Mount Morris 28-25.
With 16.8 seconds left, Whitesville and Mount Morris are tied at 28.
At the end of regulation, Whitesville and Mount Morris are tied at 28. Heading to overtime.
With 13.1 seconds left in overtime, Mount Morris leads Whitesville, 30-28.
Mount Morris hangs on in overtime and wins 30-28, over Whitesville. They’re the Class D2 champions.
The Mt. Morris Blue Devils (15-5) clinch the D2 Section V title over the Whitesville Blue Jays (18-2) 30-28 in overtime.
The Blue Devils had controll most of the game until The Blue Jays put together an 8-0 run late in the 3rd quarter.
“I kept telling our girls who wants to make history, I knew I had to keep them motivated,” Head Coach Marcie Monegro said. “We weren’t playing to our ability defensively but we were able to turn it around.”
With 16.8 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter Senior and 5th year Varsity player Anna Brado hit a contested 3 pointer to tie the game for the Blue Devils to send it to overtime.
“I was missing a lot of easy shots early and knew I need this one to fall, and thankfully it did” Brado said.
With Mt. Morris leading 30-28 in overtime Junior Autumn Edlen stole the ball from Whitesville with 4.2 seconds remaining to clinch the victory.
“We knew we had a lot resting on this game, not only because it was the Sectional finals but the first time in the history of our program to win a championship,” Head Coach Marcie Monegro said.
Anna Brado was also awarded the MVP trophy for the Blue Devils. The Blue Devils (16-5) next game is TBD to qualify them for a spot into the New York State Championship tournament.
