LIVINGSTON COUNTY — Sectionals are right around the corner for Girls Section V basketball and our teams of Livingston County are getting ready for the challenge.
The Lady York Golden Knights, Caledonia-Mumford Red Raiders, Geneseo Blue Devils, and Avon Braves have all had fantastic seasons. Each team only has four regular season games left to play.
In Class C2 we have the York Golden Knights, who are unofficially declared as the #7 seed in their class, by the Section V Girls basketball website, and are 9-5 in the regular season. Their remaining schedule is: Away at Warsaw (2/1), Home versus Cal-Mum (2/5), Away at Pavilion (2/8), and Home versus Geneseo (2/12). Leading scorers for this Lady Knights are Alex Shepard, a center/forward with 209 points so far this season, and Katelyn Venable, also a center/forward, who has 137 points this far in the season.
Also in Class C2, we have the Caledonia-Mumford Red Raiders. As of now they are 8-6 and unofficially declared as #8 seed, by the Section V Girls basketball website. Their remaining contests include: Away at Avon (2/1), Away at York (2/5), Home versus Letchworth (2/8), and Away at Perry (2/12). Top scorers for the Lady Raiders are Emily Phillips, a forward/guard with 146 points and Maddi Flint, a guard with 168 points.
And our last but not least Livingston County Class C2 team is the Geneseo Blue Devils, whom are unofficially acknowledged as #9 seed in Class C2, by the Section V Girls basketball website, and are currently an 8-6 team. The Lady Knights have four remaining games left including: Away at Pavilion (2/1), Home versus Perry (2/5), Home versus Mount Morris (2/8), and Away at York (2/12). Aubrie Johnsen and Jordan Welch, the team’s two centers are the leading scorers for the Lady Knights. Johnsen has 93 points and Welch has 98 points.
The Lady Avon Braves are in Class C1 and are a 7-7 team. They are recognized unofficially by the Section V Girls basketball website as being #6 seed in their class. Kali Mouw, a guard, is the leading scorer for this Lady Braves with 158 points. Jill McEvoy trails slightly as the second leading scorer with 127 points. The Braves have four remaining games: Home against Cal-Mum (2/1), Away versus Keshequa (2/5), Home versus Elba (2/8), and Away at LeRoy (2/12).
The ending to this season will undeniably be an attention-grabbing finale. With these Livingston County teams being so close in records, it will be a fight to the finish.
