GENESEO — Four local churches teamed up on Wednesday, Aug. 1, to host a one-day vacation bible school with the help of community members and the Geneseo Wegmans.
The VBS event was attended by about 20 kids ages pre-k through fifth grade. In addition to help from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Geneseo United Methodist Church, St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, and Central Presbyterian Church who hosted the event, multiple students from Geneseo Central High School also volunteered their time, and exemplifying the theme of the day.
“This years theme was ‘We are God’s All-Star Team’, teaching the children about working together and being a part of any team,” said Abby Maloney, one of the student volunteers. “In many previous years there has been a week-long VBS camp that children from all four churches attended, but due to low participation numbers some of us thought that a one-day long event would be more practical and increase participation.”
Maloney not only spent time during the event working with the children who attended, but also helped plan the event as a goal to help achieve her Girl Scouts Gold Award.
