LIVINGSTON COUNTY – The Western Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation (OTB) on Lakeville Road permanently closed its doors.
A letter sent to the Geneseo Town Board by Sean S. Schiano, Director of Branch Operations for OTB, chalks up the closure to a nationwide significant decline in participation in horse racing.
“Western has been able to remain profitable over the years by morphing its operations to accommodate the fluctuation in business cycles,” said Schiano in the letter. “As a result, Western finds itself in a position that requires a reduction in its branch operations. Accordingly, the corporation will be consolidating operations and closing branch facilities that are currently and have been for some time unprofitable. Western’s facility at 4149 Lakeville Road in Geneseo is unfortunately one such property that will be closed.”
Schiano did say that local associates advocated strongly to keep the office open.
“The Director from Livingston County, Thomas P. Wamp, has fought vigorously for years to keep this Branch location open but sadly operationally we can no longer stay open,” added Schiano. “Staff at Western Regional Off-Track Betting is still very confident that the investment that Livingston County made in 1974 will continue to reap benefits for your County from operations at our other facilities.”
