GENESEO – The Oak Valley Inn is calling on all artists to participate in their art contest, which will offer artists the chance to win local prizes and have their piece featured at the Inn.
The contest theme is ‘inspiration’ as a way of connecting with the local artistic community.
“When you think about inspiration you get inspired,” said Oak Valey Inn owner Jay Curci. “It’s amazing to see what an art community we have here.”
For the contest, applicants are offered to submit works ranging from photography, painting, poetry, multimedia, video, sculpture, drawing, any form of art with an inspirational twist.
In order to apply, submit your name, phone number, and town to oakvalleyinn@gmail.com with the subject line ‘Art Contest,’ or drop off your artwork at the Oak Valley Inn at 4562 Millennium Drive, Geneseo.
The deadline is April 1, and the winner will receive a “$50 art framing certificate from B&D Art & Framing on Main Street Geneseo, and will have their art work showcased in the lobby of the Inn.
The Curcis came up with the idea for the contest when discussing the need for local activity during the harsh winter months, and decided to hold this event to promote positive feelings.
Both Long Island natives, Curci and his wife took over the premises in November 2014, and have been adamant believers of bringing the community together. The walls of the Inn are lined with original painters by local artists, and they even display a wood carving out front made by a local wood carver.
Curci got in contact with members of the SUNY Geneseo Marketing Club to collaborate on a way to get information about this contest out to the community, and plans on promoting it to local high schools, the college, and main street so as to get as many people involved as he can.
Curci is also actively seeking local charities to help raise money as a way of fostering closer bonds within the community.
