GENESEO – The Town is mourning the loss of a historic figure, Madilene Peri.
Peri, 77, passed away on Sunday Sunday, Aug. 7 at her home. As the Town of Geneseo’s first female Town Council member she will be sorely missed by Geneseo and Livingston County.
Peri was born June 23, 1939 in Geneseo on the family farm on Elm Road, the daughter of Edgar and Sarah Gillen Welch.
She first worked for Attorney Joseph Quirk on Main Street Geneseo, then went on to be Office Manager for St. Mary’s Cemetery for 40 years.
She was elected to Geneseo Town Council in November 1977 and served from 1978 to 1989, then again from 2001 to 2005 as Geneseo’s Deputy Supervisor.
Peri was also a member of the Geneseo Rotary Club, the Town of Geneseo Assessment Review Board from 1975 to 1977, and the Geneseo Town Planning Board 1990 to 1992. Madilene was an active member of the Livingston County Republican Committee.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert, her children, Steve (Louann) Peri of Groveland, Donna (Randy) Dawley of Scottsville, Mark (Amy) Peri of Avon, Keith (Karin) Peri of Hudson, OH, 5 grandchildren, Gregory (Kaeleigh) Peri, Sarah (Nicholas Renswick) Dawley, Amanda Dawley, Nicholas and Michael Peri, brother, Howard Welch of Geneseo, and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 4 Avon Rd. in Geneseo with Father Edward Dillon officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Geneseo.
