GENESEO — Keep quarters inyour car, free parking in the Village of Geneseo will end Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Parking during posted hours was not enforced for the summer, although overnight parking remained prohibited, due to local law. As reported in a previous article, the free parking began as a result of a lower volume of traffic during those months.
This was the first summer the Village did not enforce parking and it appeared to be a success.
“The feedback we got from patrons of the businesses was positive. Customers were able to take care of whatever business they had then shop or eat at another establishment,” said Mayor Margaret Duff. “There were more cars on Main Street after we began and that is a positive.”
Parking costs 25 cents an hour and is limited to 1 hour for meters with a green sticker and two hours for meters with an orange sticker .
