GENESEO— The Geneseo Village Board moved to waive the $200 permit fee for pushcart food vendors who wish to operate during the village’s summer festival.
The waiver is intended to allow vendors to earn reasonable profits during the festival. The waiver will not apply to food trucks however.
According to village code, a pushcart is defined as, “any wheeled vehicle or device used by a food vendor, other than a motor vehicle or trailer, which may be moved with or without assistance of a motor and which does not require registration by the Department of Motor Vehicles.” The code further states, “no pushcart or stand shall occupy more than 30 square feet of area.”
While food trucks will have to pay the permit fee in order to sell food during the summer festival, the village is considering hosting a food truck day in order to give truck owners more opportunities to earn back their investment. All vendors, whether pushcarts or food trucks, will still need to complete the permit application process before attending.
