GENESEO — At Monday’s Geneseo Village Board of Trustees meeting, Board members discussed the proposed parking meter fees brought up at a previous meeting.
Mayor Richard Hatheway said he thought the Village should not raise the parking meter fees. Hatheway stated that many Geneseo merchants are worried people won’t shop in Geneseo as often if meter fees increase.
“I think we should drop it and stay with what we’re doing,” said Hatheway.
However, he did propose the Village change the meters from accepting nickels and dimes to only accepting quarters. One quarter would equal one hour of parking. There would still be a mix of one-hour and two-hour meters in the Village.
Changing the meters to accept quarters should cost around $400, said Hatheway. He said changing to quarters will make counting the change easier, as well as encourage turnover.
Board members Bob Wilcox and Sandy Brennan voted “yes” to the currency change. Margaret Duff voted “no.” Benjamin Gajewski was not present during the voting period.
