GENESEO — The Geneseo Village Board of Trustees held a public hearing tonight on proposed changes to the Code of the Village of Geneseo.
A committee including Trustee Sandy Brennan reviewed the code, which had been revised in 2008, and suggested some practical changes and additions.
These changes and additions include requiring a sidewalk permit before selling merchandise on the sidewalk, setting up chairs and tables, and setting up grills. The changes also redefine a front yard, a deck, an accessory dwelling unit, and a porch.
Another change made to the code addresses election signs posted in the Village. In the current code, there is no time limit as to how long the signs can be posted. The proposed change states the signs are permitted no earlier than 30 days prior to the event or election and must be taken down within 72 hours of the event or election’s end. All political signs must also contain the legal name of the person responsible for the sign and must be kept in an “attractive and safe condition.” The sign may not exceed six square feet per side or four feet in height above natural grade.
The committee also added a section on public event signs stating that people must apply for a sign with the Code Enforcement Officer. The signs may not exceed 15 square feet on either side and their placement cannot impede vehicular or pedestrian traffic. The signs cannot be placed sooner than two weeks prior to the event and must be removed within two business days of the event.
The committee also added new chapters on public litter receptacles, parks and outdoor food venders.
The Board will vote on the proposed changes after the changes are reviewed by the Livingston County Planning Board. A copy of the proposed changes can be obtained at the Village office at 119 Main Street.
