GENESEO – Freshly finished with the Geneseo Trio, we looked to discover how it has grown, and where it goes from here.
The Trio is a series of 5000 meter road races, with one being an option of a half marathon. People who run all 3 are in contention to win an overall prize at the end if they come out on top.
“Each race brings people to town which is always a boost to local businesses ,” Benjamin Gajewski, Director of the Oak Tree Half said. “Whether people stop for food or gas when they are here, they simply see how nice the village is and return some day.”
The Oak Tree races celebrated their 10 year anniversary this past August, boasting a turnout of over 700 finishers. “Being the 10th anniversary was a major milestone and really helped turn out the record crowd…it just keeps on growing,” Gajewski said.
“The Trio is a great partnership for each of the races involved,” Gajewski said of the Trio overall. “The goal behind it is to keep people active all Fall by giving them several races to participate in.
“The Trio also works very well as a means of increasing awareness of each of the races involved. Thanks to GioVanna’s support, we’re able to place ads in the paper andonline for all of the races, which helps each of us increase participation.”
As for any monumental changes for the upcoming series, Gajewski sees no major ones.
“We’ve certainly got some plans for the Oak Tree…but won’t be ready to roll those out until January or February.”
