The resolution from the Inter-County Association of Western New York and the Inter-County Legislative Committee of the Adirondacks came before the Board at its Feb. 14 meeting, where they agreed to look it over and discuss it further at today’s meeting. The Board members agreed the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013, or SAFE Act, was made through the wrong process and needs to be reevaluated and thought over with more public input. Deputy Town Supervisor Roberta Irwin said she thought the act might negatively impact business owners in the town who sell guns or ammunition, as well as hunters, therefore impacting tax revenue.
The Board decided to take the next two weeks to read over the resolution again, check facts, and add their own comments before adopting it.
At its Feb. 13 meeting, the Livingston County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution to repeal the act.
