GENESEO – Geneseo Police are urging residents to report any sighting of street signs being stolen or damaged.
According to a press release from the Geneseo Police Department, a stop sign disappeared in the Village within the past 24 hours. Other signs have apparently been tampered with.
“At the end of every Spring semester in May, the police department receives reports of stolen street signs and traffic signs,” said Geneseo Police Chief Eric Osganian. “One such theft of a stop sign occurred within the past day. These thefts can cause a safety issue, as well as an increase burden to the taxpayer since the signs have to be replaced.”
The street sign at the intersection of North and Livingston Streets was apparently tampered with. Police found some of the bolts holding the sign to its post on the ground.
Police urge anyone who thinks they see a sign being damaged or stolen to call 911 immediately.
