GENESEO – The Village has lost one of its most devoted public servants with the passing of Peter Bondi.
Monday night’s meeting of the Village Board of Trustees began with a somber moment of silence, not only for those who lost their lives on Jan. 17 but for Bondi, who passed away on Jan. 19 at the age of 82.
“It was a tragic week, but you can see the good that came out of it,” said Hatheway. “From walking on the street, people seemed pretty down, but by Friday and Saturday, the smiles were coming back again.”
Bondi originally opened the Palace on Main Street as a bowling alley and bar and went on to serve 12 years as Deputy Mayor on the Village Board of Trustees.
Though Bondi sold the Palace years ago and it was converted to office space, the lit marquee still stands above 61 Main Street.
According to an obituary by Rector Hicks Funeral Home, Bondi was a passionate member of the Geneseo Kiwanis Club. Bondi received the Hixson Award, the highest honor presented to a member of Kiwanis.
