GENESEO — Snowflakes and warm lights—those are two things the Geneseo Main Street Decoration/Enhancement Committee plan to line the streets of Geneseo’s Main Street with this winter.
The Geneseo Village Board of Trustees has approved the installation of 24 new 15-feet-tall lantern-style streetlights, which they hope will be up in late November. These new streetlights will accommodate holiday flags along the east and west sides of the street.
The Main Street Decoration/Enhancement Committee has chosen a snowflake theme to decorate the lights with this season. They plan to hang four five-foot tall snowflakes which light up on the lights at the corners near the bear fountain, with flags on the remaining twenty lights. The flags are blue with white snowflakes on them to match Geneseo Central School’s colors.
If the new lights aren’t installed before Christmas, the Village Department of Public Works will place new brackets on existing light posts, so the flags and snowflakes can still hang.
The committee is also planning a friendly holiday window decorating competition with merchants who wish to participate. Windows should be ready by Dec. 1 and the winner will be announced on Dec. 8.
