Geneseo Fire Chief Andrew Chanler reports that the Geneseo Fire Department was kept busy over the July 4th holiday. Just after midnight on July 4th, Geneseo Fire and EMS responded to a reported shed fire on Blue Heron Drive off West Lake Road in the Town of Geneseo. First arriving Sheriff’s Deputies found a shed near the Conesus Lake shoreline well involved in fire. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly after arriving. The building is owned and operated by the United States Geological Survey where lake levels are measured and recorded.
The building and it’s contents were a total loss.
Investigators from Livingston County Emergency Management and Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the cause. It is likely the fire was caused by fireworks being used in the area earlier in the evening.
Then on July 5th at 1 AM, firefighters were called to the Hampton Inn for a reported dumpster fire. It was discovered spent fireworks containers were disposed of in the dumpster after they were set off in the parking lot. The fire was contained to the dumpster. Firefighters were
committed for approximately one hour with the fire and clean-up.
