GENESEO – The recently opened ArtSmart Studio is looking for young artists to beautify the wall that currently separates Main Street from the empty foundation that was once the iconic Kelly’s Saloon, which was lost in a fire in July.
ArtSmart Studio, which opened at 28 Main Street in 2015, is looking for artists high school age and over to enter up to three designs for original paintings with a Geneseo community theme in a contest to be featured on the temporary site wall, which will be officially dubbed the Geneseo Art Wall.
Caroline Wilson, a contest organizer and intern with Livingston County Development said that three designs will be selected, and these artists will be provided 4′ by 4′ wooden boards on which to paint their paintings with weather-resistant materials. Once construction of the new building begins in 2016, the paintings will be moved to another, to-be-determined location on Main Street.
While these paintings are on display, passersby will be encouraged to vote on their favorite for ‘Best in Show.’ All three finalists will receive a $25 gift card, and the winner of ‘Best in Show’ will receive an additional grand prize.
Contest organizers will soon post a full list of contest guidelines and a printable contest application form on the ArtWall website here. Continue to follow the GeneseeSun.com as the website becomes available.
The deadline to submit a design is 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016. Designs can be dropped off or mailed along with a completed entry form to ArtSmart Studio, LLC at 28 Main Street, Geneseo, NY 14454. Designs and completed entry forms can also be emailed to the Livingston County Development Office at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Selected entries will be announced on Feb. 5. The selected artists must complete their final paintings by 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 29.
The contest is open to all Geneseo residents of high school age and up, including students at Geneseo High School and SUNY Geneseo.
The contest is sponsored by ArtSmart Studio, LLC. and the GeneseeSun.com.
