MUMFORD – Genesee Country Village and Museum has a host of throwback events planned for November and December that will fill your belly, excite your imagination and warm your heart headed into the holidays.
You can share in the museum’s famous ‘Preparing for the Holidays – The 19th Century Way’ event on Saturday, Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum’s reenactors will process a hog for the holiday feast, and you can see the various ways of preserving meats in the museum’s smoke house.
As part of Preparing for the Holidays you can join in on soap making, dipping candles, brewing beer in the Grieve’s brewery, create 19th-century ‘Crafts at Christmas,’ and many other activities. General admission is $10 for adults, $8 for youth ages 4 to16, and free to kids 3 and under or members of the museum. ‘Crafts at Christmas’ will be held in the Meeting Center with a nice and cozy fireplace. Some of the crafts include, christmas lanterns, glass ornaments, pinecone christmas trees, fabric ornaments, and wine glass paper christmas trees. Cost of the craft program is $5 each or all 5 for $20. No other admission fee is charged for the crafts program. Tickets are available online.
The museum’s legendary Breakfast with St. Nicholas will be on Saturday, Nov. 28 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Youngsters are invited to this kid-delicious breakfast and the opportunity to confess the inner most desires this Christmas. Seatings are limited and reservations are required. Cost is $13. Visitors are asked to reserve online or call (585) 294-8218 with any questions.
Yuletide in the Country, which will be held on Fridays and Sundays starting in December (December 4 to 6, 11 to 13, and 18 to 20). Make your reservations now for one of the region’s most cherished holiday traditions. The “Yuletide in the Country” features a series of warm and absorbing performances telling stories of the region’s heritage and holiday season. Reservations are required for the the tours. Costs for adults are $23 and $19 for members. Save $2 for registering Friday, December 5th or Sunday, December 7 tours. Complete your Yuletide experience with a full buffet catered by the Caledonia’s Village Inn. The buffet is $30 for adults and $16 for youth ages 1 to 10. Children ages 3 and under are free.
