GENESEO — A Geneseo Central student, noted for his commitment to volunteerism, is attempting to win $10,000 for a scholarship to attend the University of Central Florida this fall.
Shane Carman, 17, of Geneseo, has been active in the community, notably working on the development of The Livingston Youth Program and receiving numerous rewards for outstanding volunteer service.
Earlier this year, Carman was honored as one of the top 10 youth volunteers in New York State by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.
“I plan on studying hotel management in college. After recently opening the youth center, I desire to become a hotel owner for a new lodging concept. I plan on opening a charitable hotel chain that supports youth development programs. My current business plan calls for the brand to commence operations within the next five years, providing there is adequate funding. Although college is a significant investment, it is necessary to achieve my aspiration to operate a hotel brand,” Carmen wrote.
Finalists in the scholarship competition are determined by popular vote. Readers can cast their vote for Shane Carmen by visiting wyzant.com. Voting ends May 1, 2013.
