Gas Sales Tax Holiday in Monroe & Livingston Gives Little Relief, as Price Remain the Same

 

Both Monroe and Livingston Counties rescinded the gas tax starting June 1, at least through the end of the year, but gas buyers have felt little relief from the gas tax  holiday which was to save them about 23 cents per gallon.

In Livingston County, gas prices stayed about the same as they were before the gas tax holiday took effect. For instance, on June 14, a sampling of gas prices was the same as the week before,  as follows:  West Shurfine, $4.99; Quiklee’s Marathon, Lakeville , $4.89, Quiklee’s Mobil East Avon $4.99; Byrne Dairy Geneseo $4.89, Kwikfill Geneseo $4.91. No gas prices went down the estimated 23 cents that was predicted from the tax holiday.

In Monroe County, which also rescinded the gas tax, a sampling showed gas prices about the same as Livingston County, with most gas stations advertising gas prices at $4.99. A few, however, did show a decrease for a portion since they no longer had to collect the Monroe County gas tax:   Mobil, West Henrietta Rd. $4.93, Deltasonic $4.89 ($4.63 members) Costco $4.65 members only
