Gas Odor Triggers False Alarm at West’s Shurefine in Livonia

LIVONIA — There was a false alarm for a gas leak at West’s Shurfine Food Mart in Livonia.

According to employee Casey Richardson, there was a smell of gas coming from somewhere in the store when employees arrived in the morning. A call was made to RG&E due to concerns that there was a natural gas leak in the building. RG&E then contacted the Livonia Fire Department to investigate.

Upon further investigation, it was revealed that a maintenance worker for West’s Shurfine was using a propane tank earlier that morning and forgot to shut it off. There were no other gas leaks in the building.

An electrical explosion back in March resulted in the store being evacuated.
