As many of you know, in addition to owning the Sun I am also a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force Reserves where I serve as a Video Broadcaster. Being a reservist who also runs their own business, there are some unique challenges one faces in the line of duty. My challenges are the easy part – it’s what the loved ones endure while I’m away that are tough.

I make no claims of hard charging Hollywood action movies in my line of work. It’s simply me doing my job as a video broadcaster for the Air Force. It’s my job to document the hard work of others. I’m tasked with telling the story of our sons, daughters, friends and family members as they serve in the military. I’m not a pilot or a boom operator – I simply tell the story, and I take a tremendous amount of pride in doing so. What makes my situation unique is that I’m likely the only reservist in the military who also owns a local online news site.
The question is – what becomes of the Sun?
The plan is to keep delivering content as best we can. I’ve got talented freelancers that are going to be here to handle stories, scores and follow-up on news tips. My nights will be spent either writing content for the Sun or a quick trip home to see my family. When you are passionate about what you do motivation is easy to come by.
With this challenge a new friendship and partnership has emerged with Messenger Post Media. When I reached out to them explaining my situation, they responded quickly about supporting the Sun while I’m away on military service. Their response was humbling, and I’m grateful. The Messenger Post stepped up in a move that looks to be a formidable partnership long after I return from this assignment. You’re also going to see some new writers that I’m very excited about. It’s the people in our community that make this such a wonderful place to live and raise a family.
So that’s the nuts and bolts of what the next 60 days look like for the Sun. It’s not going to be easy, and that’s never been an expectation with the Sun.
