LIVINGSTON COUNTY — Friends of the Genesee Valley Greenway are seeking volunteers to help clean up Little Black Creek Park in Chili, as part of the statewide ‘I Love My Park Day.’
According to a press release from Joan Schumaker, volunteers will help pick up debris, remove tires, trim brush, and rake specific areas.
Volunteers will be planting trees and are advised to bring water, gloves, and hand tools like rakes, loppers, hand clippers, and shovels. Snacks will be provided at the event.
I Love My Park Day was initiated in 2012 by State Parks (OPRHP) and Parks and Trails New York (PTNY), with the goal of encouraging volunteers to improve and enhance New York’s state parks and historic sites, while also bringing visibility to the state park system as a whole.
Since I Love My Park Day began, the Friends of the Genesee Valley Greenway have participated in events at 11 Greenway sites.The Genesee Valley Greenway is a 93-mile multi-use trail from Rochester to Hinsdale.
Little Black Creek Park is located just north of 84 Lumber in Chili, on Scottsville Road (Route 383). The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on May 6. To register to participate, visit PTNY’s I Love My Park website, email fogvg@frontiernet.net, or call 585-476-2354.
