According to Lore DiSalvo, the third annual I Love My Park Day will take place on May 2, where thousands of volunteers across the state will participate in cleanup, improvement, and beautification events at more than 80 New York state parks and historic sites.
In Geneseo, volunteers will pitch in at Long Point Park from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Volunteers will help paint close to 50 picnic tables, clear brush and debris, and perform various tasks needed by the park’s caretaker.I Love My Park Day is coordinated at the statewide level by Parks & Trails New York in partnership with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Friends groups and park staff oversee cleanup, improvement and beautification projects and work with volunteers. To volunteer, contact the Friends of Long Point Park at (585) 204-7871.
DiSalvo also shared some nostalgic pictures of the historic park, alongside photos taken at the same sites many years later, adding some insight into the origins of the photos.
Top – a center section of a 1923 Panoramic taken with Cirkut 10 Camera. Amazingly the negative for this picture was the same as the picture 10′ by 38″. At that time the Dance Hall Pavilion to the right had just been built.
The building in center was built in 1880s and used for Concessions and housing seasonal Concessionaires, as well as the Bands and Orchestra members that would come to play in the large Dance Hall Pavilion. Picture is courtesy of LaGrou Family.
Bottom picture is a recent picture captured by Bev Flood who resides on West Lake Road taken at Long Point Dock looking west and very kindly shared it with Friends of Long Point in Livingston County.

Inset- Top picture is of the newly installed Miniature Golf Course 1930-1933 looking west towards Geneseo. If you look through the trees on Long Point Road you can see an auto coming down the hill.
Below picture was taken October 2014 and shows John Petris’s “Bessie” a 1911 Model T leaving Long Point Park. John brought “Bessie” all the way from Hammondsport, NY area to visit the Park on that beautiful Fall Day. Picture is courtesy of John LaGrou.
