UPDATE:1:20 P.M.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY — The allegations of fraudulent pay and recordkeeping practices by Sheriff’s deputies, which so far have been limited to the Livingston County jail, could grow into a county-wide investigation.
As previously reported by the GeneseeSun.com, deputies have allegedly been swapping and misreporting hours worked, apparently for years.
Thursday, Livingston County District Attorney Greg McCaffrey said that the investigation may be expanding. “We have requested that the New York State Police handle this investigation,” McCaffrey said. “We have not received any opposition from the Sheriff or the Board of Supervisors on the request.”
Asked about the extent of the problem within the Sheriff’s Department, McCaffrey could not confirm the current number of deputies involved, but he indicated that the allegations could potentially not just be limited to jail employees.
“We don’t really know what we are looking at, at this point. It’s not right to single out the jail deputies.” said McCaffrey. “The investigation could potentially go county-wide.”
