ALBANY — According to news partner 13WHAM.com former New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver was found guilty on corruption charges Monday afternoon.
This is also following a report from sister station WRGB, which clarifies that the jury found Silver guilty on all seven counts against him. Charges ranged from fraud to extortion to money laundering.
According to a WRGB article in April, Sheldon was involved in “official” favors for an investor who gave him access to high-yield investment opportunities.
The New York State Assembly forms one house of the state’s bicameral legislature. The 63-member Senate and 150-member Assembly represent New York’s 19 million plus citizens.
“The Legislature, through its varied functions, serves as a check upon the executive authority of the Governor and helps ensure that the best interests of the State’s citizens are legislatively represented,” according to the New York State Senate.
