Former Geneseo Elementary Principal Resigns From Superintendent Position in East Rochester

The East Rochester Union Free School District Board of Education has accepted the voluntary resignation of Dr. Mark Linton, Superintendent of Schools, effective July 31, 2019. Linton has been the superintendent East Rochester Union Free School District since 2015 and has been on paid leave since early May 2019. Neither the district or Linton has publicly shared a reason for the sudden resignation
Richard Stutzman will continue to serve as interim superintendent of schools until the Board of Education appoints a permanent superintendent. Stutzman has been the interim superintendent since Linton started his leave of absence.
The East Rochester Union Free School District Board released a statement regarding the situation. “The board expresses its appreciation to Dr. Linton for his four years with the district and wishes him all the best in his future endeavors. The Board of Education is confident the
district’s talented leadership team will help guide the district during this time of transition.” According to the state Department of Education, approximately 960 students in kindergarten through 12th grade attend East Rochester schools.
Linton previously served as the principal at Geneseo Elementary School in Livingston County and was a special education teacher and school counselor in districts in Monroe, Livingston and Ontario counties.
