GENESEO – Geneseo’s opening match at Avon was postponed at the beginning of the third quarter due to lightning.
The game had barely resumed after halftime when it was announced that there would be a 30 minute delay. Geneseo lead 22-6 with 9:02 remaining in the third quarter when the game was called.
Geneseo’s first touchdown came in the opening minutes of the game when Senior Ryan Lagrou ran the ball into the end zone.
A few minutes later, Lagrou logged an interception which he returned for a second touchdown with 5:54 left in the 1st quarter. Geneseo then completed a 2-point conversion bringing the score to 14-0.
As the 1st quarter came to a close, Junior QB Trevor Frazier completed a beautiful pass to Senior WR Alec Rice for another touchdown. Frazier completed a 2-point conversion and Geneseo lead 22-0 going into the 2nd quarter.
Avon started to come together in the second quarter. Senior QB Joe Sotak scored a TD with 7:18 remaining the 2nd to bring the score to 22-6.
The game took an unfortunate turn with 1:07 remaining in the 2nd when Avon Senior WR Garrett Mack and Junior OL Owen Read had to be taken off the field by ambulance due to injury.
A few minutes into the 3rd quarter a 30-minute delay was announced. After the 30 minutes were up, officials announced that the game was postponed. A make-up time has not yet been determined.
