GENESEO — The Geneseo Blue Devils saw their most competitive contest of the year ultimately end in defeat, losing 32-26 at home to Cuba-Rushford.
The Blue Devils would hold a first quarter lead, 6-0, after a touchdown pass from quarterback Trevor Frazier to wide receiver Ryan LaGrou with 2:55 to go in the first. This duo would connect two more times in the game, but Cuba-Rushford would regain the momentum at every turn, leading to their victory.
The Rebels would hold the halftime lead at 20-12 and continued to stay one step ahead of the Blue Devils in the second half.
Head coach Tim Dolgos was proud of the effort his team put forward.
“This is by far the best the kids have played all year, Dolgos said. “We’re really proud of the effort from start to finish. We’re a young group, we know we’re going to make some mistakes along the way, but those kids fought from the first snap to the last snap.”
Dolgos also liked what he saw from Frazier and LaGrou
“Trevor (Frazier) has come in, he’s a young kid, a freshman, and it’s his first time playing varsity football and he learns, he listens really well,” Dolgos said. “He’s got a good rapport with his receivers. When we come out to practice, he’s already out there with his receivers, he’s got his center snapping to him and he’s throwing to his receivers before we say a word and that’s what you need in a quarterback.”
While Geneseo hung with Cuba-Rushford for the entire game, turnovers and an impressive offensive performance from Rebels running back Rian Freeman, who had three rushing touchdowns, was just enough to edge Geneseo.
Following the loss, Geneseo (0-5) will play at Letchworth on Friday at 7:30. Cuba-Rushford (1-4) will be at home next Friday at 7:30 against Canisteo-Greenwood.
