ROCHESTER — The Avon Braves took home the Section V title, defeating the Red Jacket Indians 14-6 at rainy Sahlen Stadium on Saturday night.
The Braves and Indians played to a scoreless tie through the first half, but rushing touchdowns from quarterback TJ Crye and Jake Martinez in the second half helped Avon clinch the victory.
Dan Welch, a junior running back had 54 yards rushing on 14 carries and felt his offense could gain control when they got the ball.
“I felt comfortable pretty much the whole time, we were doing pretty good on defense, we just need to get on offense for once,” Welch said.”I think as soon as we started pounding the all down the field that’s I think that’s when it kicked in that we could do it.”
Welch also said this was the game to let everything hang out on the field.
“It feels great, it’s sectionals, it’s a title give it everything you’ve got.”
They play next week in a qualifer for the State Championship at Sahlen Stadium.
