LIVINGSTON COUNTY—A fire in 1988 can’t destroy the memories Long Point Park has left engraved in the hearts and minds of those who visited.
Debora Lowery has worked as a secretary of the Department of Communication at SUNY Geneseo since 1980. After reading the article, “Early Support from Town of Geneseo for Long Point Park Revitalization,” Lowery shared memories of growing up in Mt. Morris and visiting Long Point Park.
“I just remember going there with my parents on a Sunday afternoon. I always rode the Little Dipper first! I loved the sounds of the chains when it was going up. Next, I’d usually ride the little wooden boats: they were in water. Then the Merry go round, the scrambler, the ferris wheel and the tilt-a-whirl,” said Lowery. “It was family friendly and safe. After the rides we’d go to the arcade and play ski ball. Before we went home I’d get French fries, an ice cream cone or a snow cone! A lot of people went roller skating, but not me, I have no coordination. As a teenager, I rode the summer rec bus to Long Point for swimming lessons.”
There have been no further updates on Long Point Park being revitalized.
“I have many wonderful memories of Long Point and I really hope it happens” said Lowery.
