AVON – Several roads are now closed early Sunday evening due to severe flooding in areas of Avon.
Parts of River Street and Pole Bridge Road are already underwater, and the National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning until 7 p.m. Northern Livingston County and South Central Monroe County.
“At 4:43 p.m. EDT, trained weather spotters reported flash flooding in Avon,” says the Warning, issued at 4:50 p.m. Sunday. “Around three inches of rain has already fallen. Flash flooding is occurring with several roads closed in Avon and vicinity areas. Flooding will continue even after the rainfall has ended.”
The Weather Service recommends that drivers “turn around” and “don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.”
